I started with MOKAN in 2010 and hadn't skated at all in over 30 years (I wasn't even a good skater before that!). I saw MOKAN skating in the freezing cold Joplin Christmas parade - looked up women's roller derby and decided I had to try it. I hate physical exercise in most forms but the competition and the friendships in roller derby keep me interested and help me keep engaged and give me a break from an otherwise extremely hectic life.
In June of 2011, I had a freakish fall and when I Ianded, my leg was broken at a 45 degree angle. I'm sorry to say there is no glamorous story about some huge girl knocking me down - I just fell while standing and talking! After a rod, screws and 15 staples, I returned to derby 90 days later and am often referred to as the Titanium Tree.
I don't have any special equipment - just whatever happens to be on my feet at the time.
I am married and a mother of 3 and in my day life, my husband and I own and operate a local hardware store.
